Technology Advisory: Firefox 3.5 Released

Mozilla has released Firefox 3.5, the latest major version of their open source web browser, for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The browser can be downloaded here: http://www.getfirefox.com

Improvements in this version include:
  • New TraceMonkey JavaScript engine, claiming to be two times faster than Firefox 3 and ten times faster than Firefox 2
  • The ability to play audio and video within the browser without plugins using the HTML5 audio and video elements.
  • New privacy controls including Private Browsing, Forget this Site, and Clear Recent History.
  • Location Aware Browsing - an optional setting to give websites information about your location.
  • Support for new web technologies such as: downloadable fonts, CSS media queries, new transformations and properties, JavaScript query selectors, HTML5 local storage and offline application storage, canvas text, ICC profiles, and SVG transforms
Windows System Requirements:
  • Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003 or Vista
  • Pentium 233 MHz (Recommended: Pentium 500 MHz or greater)
  • 64 MB RAM (Recommended: 128 MB RAM or greater)
  • 52 MB hard drive space
Mac System Requirements:
  • Mac OS X 10.4 and later
  • Macintosh computer with an Intel x86 or PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
  • 128 MB RAM (Recommended: 256 MB RAM or greater)
  • 200 MB hard drive space
